Beware of Mobile Apps with Trojan Virus

Case Background

Mobile apps containing Trojan viruses are being downloaded by victims, and hackers can then monitor users’ activities on mobile phones. Malware in mobile apps can also identify mobile banking applications in users’ mobile phones and gain access to their login accounts and passwords.

Avoid :

• Visit to any suspicious websites
• Download or open any suspicious files, unknown hyperlinks and attachments (e.g. emails, instant messages, SMS, QR codes)
• Jailbreak or root mobile phones and tablets

Things to Do :

• Install security software and scanning and cleaning tools on mobile phones
• Use the latest versions of the operating systems, online banking applications and browsers
• Regularly review your monthly bank statements or records to check if there are any suspicious transactions. Inform banks immediately if any such transactions have been discovered.

Hong Kong Police Force has set up the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) under the Commercial Crime Bureau to fight deception or fraud cases, including cyber fraud or deception cases.
